By Rotorhub 10/20/2006
Alexandria, Va., October 20, 2006 - HAI President Matt Zuccaro announced the creation of four new industry scholarships. Two pilots will be awarded $5,000 each towards the attainment of a commercial helicopter rating, and two maintenance technicians will be awarded $2,500 each toward the attainment of Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) certifications. The guidelines and requirements for these scholarships were developed at a meeting held on August 2-3, 2006, at HAI headquarters, following approval by HAI's Board of Directors in June. Carolyn Ferrell, Edwards & Associates, Chairman of HAI's Human Resources Committee, President Matt Zuccaro, Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary Elizabeth Meade, and Harold Summers, Director of Flight Operations and Technical Services attended the meeting.
HAI had previously awarded a total of $5,000 to assist maintenance technicians in aircraft-specific education, including travel expenses. Applicants for both the AMT and Pilot scholarships are required to meet the following criteria when submitting their applications. They must be HAI members in good standing; submit a current resume and a clear copy of any and all FAA or International Equivalent Certificate(s); submit three current letters of recommendation from individuals such as employers, flight instructors, or HAI member who can attest to the candidate's background, training, and experience, as it relates to the aviation industry. International applicants must show proof of foreign citizenship. Additionally, applicants for the AMT and Pilot scholarship must show proof of enrollment in an AMT International Equivalent training program, and applicants for the Pilot scholarship must show proof of enrollment in a helicopter-training program.
